Angel(a)
DRAG
Unamuna is Angel(a)'s drag character. Undefined and genderless, Unamuna embodies the need to explore masculinity and femininity, or maybe just to challenge both. Occupying a significant space in his artistic project, drag allows Angel(a) to play, twist, and create from a new perspective. From interpreting and reclaiming classical music in queer spaces to adapting his knowledge of improvisational theater to the shows, drag becomes a place for Angel(a) to embody himself without filters—a home.
Casa del Carmen (House of Carmen) is the first drag house founden in Salamanca (November 2019), it was created to make dissident bodies visible, talk about LGTBI+ issues, and create community around the art of drag.
These elements continue to be the main focus of the project today.
They created theatre-drag shows for Espacio Almargen (@__almargen) in Salamanca, many of these have sold out.
They also make performances for local bars in Salamanca (Bar El Carmen, El Pakipalla, El Rastrel), and hey have participated in festivals dedicated to drag in Oporto (Festa da Xota) and the Drag King Gala in Vigo. As well as in collective creations with Oistes Teatro and in the celebration of Pride Day in Arenas de San Pedro with the association Arenas Arcoiris.
Another part of the project is teaching worksohops about the art of drag and the way art can benefit the LGBTQ+ comunity. They have done this in Salamanca, Madrid (with Eko Carabanchel) and at Arenas de San Pedro.
